Project Overview
The NSW Department of Education is undertaking planning for the merger of James Cook Boys Technology High School (JCBHS) and Moorefield Girls High School (MGHS), which are coming together into one co-educational facility.
To support the transition to a co-educational school, the project will deliver:
- upgraded facilities for all students including refurbished toilets and change rooms, updated administration areas, and new signage and wayfinding across the combined site.
- a major electrical upgrade, integrated security, IT and PA/bell systems, and upgraded networks
- upgraded learning spaces including two new science laboratories and a science classroom
- upgrades to specialist learning facilities for subjects such as food technology, textiles, woodwork and metalwork
- weatherproof access across the combined campus and air conditioning for classrooms.

Following the announcement on 12 November, James Cook Boys Technology High School and Moorefield Girls High School will transition to a new co-educational high school from Term 1 2026.
Extensive community consultation in the surrounding school communities, found co-education was preferred by the majority of those surveyed with support particularly strong from local primary school parents and students.
An increase in the student population at a co-educational school will expand the range of courses and extra-curricular activities for students, enhancing their post-school pathways and career options. We will provide regular updates on the progress of the project here and through the school newsletter.
