We established our partnership with Australian Business & Community Network (ABCN) to enable us to target corporations that ABCN are connected to, to broaden student understanding of the world of work. The opportunity to visit and interact with different businesses support students in making connections between education and career planning.
Year 10 students who had indicated an interest in business, media, communications and the creative industries were able to attend a Career Choice Day at the Optus Precinct, Macquarie Park. We were taken around the Optus campus witnessing and asking questions in the IT Global security department, multimedia and marketing, and call centre. Students were able to listen into costumer calls, learning how to communicate and manage different call situations.
The students and I were impressed by the ‘university campus' style work environment that creates a cohesive atmosphere amongst departments and colleagues, working towards common company goals.
