20 Apr 2017
Our annual Athletics Carnival was held at Hensley Athletics Track. The Carnival was moved from Term 2 in an attempt to avoid the wet weather which caused us to cancel last year's Carnival.
All students from years 7 to 12 participated in a range of traditional track and field events to earn points for their house. The house with the most points at the end of all the events wins the Champion House title. On the day emphasis is placed on participation as a much as it is on athletic ability, with students receiving points for their house for every event they enter. It should be noted that student attendance at this carnival was 82%, demonstrating great school spirit considering the weather conditions of late.
On the day the Champion House was Tupia with a total of 486 points. In second place was Solander, with 443 points, and Banks and Hicks finished third and fourth respectively.
Whilst students participated for enjoyment, there was still great sportsmanship and competitiveness demonstrated throughout the Carnival. Special mention must go to the age champions, who took part in a range of events, earning the highest number of points for their House in their particular age group.
Special mention must go the PDHPE Faculty for organising the Carnival, and a big congratulations to all students and staff for their efforts on the day. Finally, we would like to wish all students who qualified for the St George Zone Athletics Carnival good luck when they represent the school at this competition. The Zone Carnival will be held at the end of Term 2, which gives our competitors plenty of time to prepare.
